Soil Potassium

Este capítulo foca no potássio do solo. No sistema solo-planta, o potássio apresenta diferenças extremas de solubilidade e mobilidade. Assim, sua absorção desde soluções e nos solos é altamente eficiente. Seu movimento através da planta é muito rápido, mas sua retenção líquida em células vivas individuais pode ser bastante forte, e algumas das ligações persistem até a morte da célula. O potássio do solo varia do estado solúvel através de estados de mobilidade decrescente até se tornar um constituinte essencial de certos minerais primários, dos quais é liberado apenas pela destruição da estrutura cristalina. Em muitos solos, ocorre toda uma gama de formas conhecidas de potássio; em outros solos, algumas formas podem estar ausentes, geralmente devido à ausência de alguns tipos de minerais primários ou argilosos. Neste capítulo, são explicadas as formas de potássio do solo e sua disponibilidade para as plantas. É apresentada uma breve discussão sobre a influência de outros cátions nas formas de potássio do solo. Também são elaboradas as relações dos microrganismos do solo com o potássio do solo.

Abstract

This chapter focuses on soil potassium. In the soil-plant system, potassium behaves with extreme differences of solubility and mobility. Thus, its absorption from solutions and soils is highly efficient. Its movement through the plant is very rapid, yet its net retention in individual living cells may be quite strong and some of the bonds persist until death of the cell. Soil potassium ranges from the soluble state through states of decreasing mobility to that of an essential constituent of certain primary minerals from which it is released only by destruction of the crystal structure. In many soils, the entire range of known forms of potassium occurs; in other soils, some forms may be lacking, usually because of the absence of some types of primary or clay minerals. In this chapter, forms of soil potassium and their availability to plants are explained. A brief discussion on influence of other cations on forms of soil potassium is presented. Relationships of soil microorganisms to soil potassium are also elaborated.
