Mechanism for the formation of methylglyoxal from triosephosphates

Resumo

Este artigo resume as investigações do mecanismo para as reações de eliminação não enzimáticas de triose fosfato catalisadas por triose-fosfato isomerase, e as conclusões desse trabalho sobre a surpreendente instabilidade cinética desses compostos. Ele conclui com um breve comentário sobre as possíveis consequências metabólicas dessas reações de eliminação.

Abstract

This paper summarizes investigations of the mechanism for the non-enzymic and triosephosphate-isomerase-catalysed elimination reactions of triosephosphates and the conclusions from this work about the surprising kinetic instability of these compounds. It concludes with a brief commentary on the possible metabolic consequences of these elimination reactions.
